THE LEICA AKADEMIE INSPIRATION BOOK
I am happy and proud to be part of the project. “Leica Akademie Inspiration book”
The Leica Akademie Inspiration book is thought to be like an inspiring visit to a gallery. 240 outstanding pictures taken by 76 Leica Akademie photographers from all over the world have been curated by the authors Heidi and Robert Mertens. In the words of the authors, Each picture tells a story that will bring you further along in your photographic journey.
“Quality rather than quantity, this is a criteria that certainly applies when looking for exceptional photographs that stand out among the sheer mass of images produced today. Because of the possibilities offered by digital imagery, the same number of pictures formerly produced in a year, if not a decade, is now produced in a matter of seconds.
This means that it is more important than ever to nurture artistic creativity and originality, to produce photographs that are so much more than mere data. Engaging with your photographic themes or individual motifs is very important; yet seeing, recognizing and giving careful thought to them before actually taking a picture is essential”.

What a great variety of possibilities lie in portraiture. Images by Marc De Tollenaere are rather like a picture puzzle, where the many details reveal additional information about the person portrayed. Both pictures were taken in Venice and are part of a larges series. The concept behind it: include the Venetians’ surroundings, their homes, in their portraits.
“I have encountered eyes, voices, stories and mysteries, hidden behind the rough walls of the narrow streets. I have listened to many legends and shared many secrets”.
